Employee well-being: strategies to mitigate work stress through technology

At the beginning of 2023, we analyzed the Human Resources trends for that year, and we pointed out among them the concern and care for the mental health of employees. At the beginning of this year and analyzing the trends, two factors that we had already heard about before stood out again: the mental well-being of workers and the use of technology at different levels. And, although they seem like two different issues, the truth is that they are closely related. 

We often talk about technology as a tool that is changing the way we work. Capable of improving the productivity and profitability of companies, while freeing workers from tedious tasks and allowing them to make more use of their talent in tasks that are more valuable and promote their development on a professional and personal level. But we overlook an additional benefit of technology: its ability to become a source of well-being for those who work.

For this reason, we found it interesting to address in depth the different ways in which technology can help us mitigate work stress today.

We will not ignore the fact that the rapid technological advancement that we have experienced in recent years has become a source of anxiety for many people. They notice that they are falling behind in digital skills and feel “threatened” because they believe that a machine or software is going to end up doing their job.

Therefore, the starting point is to work with this source of stress. Get employees to see technology as an ally and not an enemy, and achieving it requires involvement from both the company and its staff.

Nowadays, it is common for those who make up a work team not to carry out their work from the same physical space. This helps improve diversity in teams, but can become a source of stress.

If the communication between colleagues is poor or difficult, some people may not be able to advance in their work at the pace they would like. That's when technology comes into play.

During the pandemic we all learned to use online communication and collaboration tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams or Zoom. These types of applications are characterized because they are easy to use, and allow you to maintain direct contact with colleagues.

In addition to being used for work, they can also be used for make meetings more informal and enhance personal contact between colleagues. This reinforces the feeling of belonging to the company, and alleviates the feeling of loneliness and stress that can be associated with working alone for a long time.

Companies provide their employees with a large amount of information and tools necessary for their work.
