Chapter 93: How to create a Wellness strategy from a comprehensive perspective of the human being

In this new episode of HR Thoughts by HirintJavier Cañizares interviews Eliana Restrepo, current Vice President of Human Talent at Seguros SURA, to discuss one of the most relevant topics in human talent management today: organizational well-being from a holistic and human perspective.

Eliana shares her inspiring professional journey, which began in Colombia, went on to attend EAFIT University, and then developed within the SURA group, where she has grown personally and professionally. With a vision deeply rooted in family values and purpose, Eliana believes that well-being cannot be reduced to isolated initiatives, but must be part of the organizational DNA. From her perspective, Well-being is the fulfillment of the human being in the work environment, where it is possible to “be” before “doing”.

Throughout the conversation, he details how, from Human Talent at SURA, they have built a well-being strategy articulated in four dimensions:
🔹 Be you: foster authenticity, diversity and inclusion.
🔹 I take care of you: physical, mental and financial health as essential pillars.
🔹 We grow together: human development, difficult conversations and transformation.
🔹 We are part: emotional connection, culture, art and sense of belonging.

Eliana also explains how they managed to ground this approach in the real employee experience, redesigning offices as meeting spaces, promoting work flexibility, breaking down physical and mental barriers, and implementing concrete practices such as mixed-gender restrooms, inclusive signage, and emotional support programs. All of this is accompanied by a new way of communicating, where networks like internal Instagram have become key channels.

During the interview, topics such as the consistency in decision-making, the transformative role of leadership, and the need for talent strategies to be built not from the condition (budget, resources), but from the ambition and purposeEliana also shares concrete results that demonstrate the impact of these policies: high levels of satisfaction in climate and psychosocial risk surveys, and a perception of well-being reaching 95%.

The chapter closes with a reflection on the future: the emergence of artificial intelligence, the role of the emotional intelligence, ethics, and the meaning of work in an era of augmented humans. For Eliana, the challenge lies not only in adopting new technologies, but in keeping humanity at the center, cultivating communication, self-knowledge, and the "whys" that give meaning to our actions.

A rich, in-depth conversation with valuable lessons for any human resources professional.
